This is one
of the movements in Christianity that holds to observation of the Hebrew
Sabbath as one of its major practices.
As the name
provides, the Seven-Day Baptist is known for its belief of majority of the
practices of other Baptists with difference of its hold to Sabbath rest and
worship on the seventh day of the week that is identified as Saturday in
Christian calendar.
History Of
The Group
Seventh-Day
Baptist started in England in 17th century Ad. The Baptists believe that the
movement started in 1617 by the ministerial activities of John Trask and his
wife. Although, the records of this fact
was alleged to been destroyed in an inferno but is widely believed as the real
point of origin of the group.
The
official record of the movement with regards to its formation accounted that
the first Seven-Day Baptist meeting took place at the Mill Yard Church in
London in 1651 under the leadership of
Dr. Peter Chamberlain.
The
movement spread to USA through Stephen Mumford,, a Seventh-Day Baptist from
England who arrived Rhode Island in 1665 and began to evangelize the tradition
of Sabbath observation amongst the Baptist in the area. This attracted Samuel
and Tacy Hubbard who were members of the First Baptist Church in Newport to
join up Mumford and other members to commence Sabbath rest and worship,
identifying themselves as the “Sabbatarian Baptists”.
The church
spread to Penisylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and Carolina. The movement later spread to Germany where it
was incorporated in 1814 as the German Religious Society of the Seventh-Day
Baptists.
The
Seventh-Day Baptist General conference was convened in 1801. The group has
extended its membership, conferences and associations to India, Australia,
Brazil, Netherlands, Jamaica, Poland,Fiji, Argentina etc.
Influencing
Factors Towards Formation
There were
some influential factors that gave use to the formation of the Seven-Day
Baptist movement during 1650s in England. Some of the factors include the
publications of Sabbath rest and worship in English language at the early years
of 17th century.
Another
strong factors were the continuing Baptist Movements in England within that
period and the relative freedom of religion from state control provided in the
Oliver Growell's Commom-wealth. Adherent
to the conviction of Sabbath rest as part of the Hebrew and apostolic assembly
boldly stood out without regard to the state punishment that associated such
heroic attitude.
Doctrines
And Practices
With
exception of Sabbath rest and celebration, the Seventh-Day Baptists hold to
majority of the traditions of other Baptists.
Each church or association of the
group has freedom to its statement of belief which represent the acts of the
Conference of the U.S.A. and Canada.
The
statement of belief commenced by an introduction as follows “Seventh-Day
Baptists consider liberty of thought under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to
be essential to Christian belief and practice. Therefore, we encourage the
unhindered study and open discussion of scriptures. We uphold the individual
freedom of conscience in seeking to determine and obey the will of God. The
following statement is not intended to be exhaustive, but is an expression of
our common belief, which derived from our understanding of scriptures”.
Other major
doctrine of the movement is its believer's baptism of emersion. The group share other doctrines of the
mainline Christianity as the trinity, Bible as the final authority, belief of
the priesthood of all believers, salvation through the atonement of the saviour
whom it refers as Jesus Christ, church as the gathering of people of God joined
together by the Holy Spirit, belief of eternal life that run through
resurrection of all souls, judgment day, existence of heaven for believers and
hell for unbelievers.
Other
faiths include the existence of Satan and hosts of fallen angels, commemoration
of the “Lord's Supper” and evangelism of souls to the messiah.
Leadership
And Structure
The organization
settings of the movement is headed by the Seventh-Day Baptists General
Conference (U.S.A) and Canada) which is a member of the Baptist World Alliance.
The
headquarter for the General Conference is at Janesville, Wisconsina, the Board
of Christian Education has its offices at Alfred Station, New York. The Missionary Society offices are in
Westerly, Rhodes Island.
Conclusion
The
Seventh-Day Baptists boasts of having many Baptists spread in twenty-two
countries. These members as well as their associations seek for Yahosheanism through
the Seventh-Day Baptist movement.
They are of
the conviction that if a Baptist keeps Sabbath rest and celebration, he or she
has fulfilled the required scriptures or conditions of Yahosheanism.
This
conclusion differed with the view of the primitive as well as the continuing
Yahosheanism that holds that Sabbath rest, emersion baptism and other religious
practice of Hebrew tradition must be related to Yahweh and not Gods of nations
as observed by the Seventh-Day Baptists. The entire assembly must lay
allegiance to Yahoshea Meshiyach and not to idol names as Izeus Soter, Jesus Christ, Yahshua the Messiah,
Jeshue etc.
The true
Baptists that are of Yahosheanism must accompany the rest of all approved
festivals of Yahweh such as the New Year day of 31st March (1st of Abib)
annually, the feast of Atonement on 10th Abib (April) the feast of Passover on
the evening of 13th of Abib (April), Feast of First Fruits on 5th of the 3rd
month (June) the Feast of Reconciliation 13th of the 4th Month (July) the
Birthday Feast of Yahoshea Meshiyach on 2nd of 7th month (October) the Feast of
Last Ingathering on 13th of 7th month (October) the Feast of the Tabernacle on
14th of 7th month (October), the Feast of the Comforter's Day on 28th of 7th
month (October.
Majority of
these feasts were observed by Hebrew nation and Yahoshea's assembly and
currently restored by the continuing Yahosheanism.
Therefore,
when a believer observes Sabbath rest, partakes in the Last Supper or Memorial
feast of Yahoshea and observe believers baptism but worships or addresses the
Grand Creator of the universe in an idol name, such one has missed his or her
target. Such one remains unbeliever and a sinner seeking for redemption. So the
Seventh Day Baptists cannot be viewed as the true sect that represent Yahoshea
Meshiyach and his apostolic assembly because it holds to the doctrine of Baalim
that the Roman Catholic Church cooked up in place of Yahosheaism.
Those who
have ears should hear this well.
